Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero has had his say on Daniel Levy’s departure.
After nearly 25 years as the club’s chairman, Levy announced his resignation from the role earlier this month.
Levy’s exit caught many off guard, but it would have come as a good surprise to some Tottenham supporters. The 63-year-old was not the most popular figure in north London after failing to help the club keep up their rivals.
Romero, though, thinks Levy needs to be thanked following his decision to step down as chairman.

Romero has done just that while wishing the former Spurs chairman the very best for the future.
Speaking to Tottenham’s official club website and the media ahead of his side’s Champions League tie against Villarreal, the central defender said: “I don’t know what’s happened but he is a person who has been at the Club for a good many years.
“We need to thank him. He brought me here. Fortunately we could crown his reign with a trophy. I wish [him] the very best.”
Former Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was one individual who was surprised to hear the news that Levy has left the club after nearly 25 years.
When Defoe was asked about Levy’s departure, he said: “When I saw the news, I was surprised like everyone else. I didn’t see that coming.”
Spurs have now entered a new era, but it does not necessarily mean that they are going to start spending heavily in the transfer market.
Their CEO Vinai Venkatesham has spoken about transfers following Levy’s resignation, quickly reminding supporters that the Premier League‘s profit and sustainability rules are not going anywhere.

Levy was often criticised for Tottenham’s transfer business during his time at the club, but he deserves some credit for the acquisition of Romero.
The Argentine is now easily one of the best centre-halves in the Premier League and only cost £42m.
Of course, Fabio Paratici was the man who spearheaded Spurs’ move for Romero, utilising his knowledge of Serie A. But signing the Argentina international from Atalanta still had to be signed off by Levy.
Levy did not get everything right at Tottenham, but approving a deal for Romero was certainly one correct call that he made.
