Tottenham Hotspur were in a celebratory mood after their London derby victory over West Ham on Saturday – but the same couldn’t be said for former Spurs chief Alan Sugar.

The north London side saw off the Hammers 3-0 at the London Stadium, with Pape Sarr, Lucas Bergvall and Micky van de Ven getting on the scoresheet to put Spurs second in the Premier League table.

But before the fiery match got underway, former Tottenham co-owner and chairman Sugar set off his own fireworks as he took to X and appeared to threaten ex-Spurs player Jamie Redknapp with legal action.

Redknapp had been appearing as a pundit on Sky Sports for the fixture, and Sugar took issue with his remarks about his tenure between 1991 and 2001.

Jamie Redknapp says Tottenham were ‘a complete mess’ when Alan Sugar left

Speaking on Sky Sports about Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy’s impending exit, he said: “I think that’s maybe been a problem, there’s been a disconnect with the fans when Daniel Levy was there.

“One thing I will say, and I’ve been critical with Daniel – there were a few things I didn’t like with how he operated – but in terms of the training ground, the facilities, the infrastructure, one of the best stadiums in world – he’s done a great job.

“The one thing I’ll say is the wages at the club – everyone applauds that – but I think what that’s done is not get the best players for the club. So that’s always been a bit difficult.

“But whoever takes over – you think back to how Alan Sugar left the club, it was a complete mess – Daniel Levy has left this club in a really good way and Vinai [Venkatesham] will know that and the people in charge now can look at this club and really believe that this can go forward.

“And maybe, no disrespect, but a bit more likeable. I think that’s what they’ll be looking to do and get that relationship with the fans, with the club and make everybody proud to be Tottenham fans. It’s a huge fanbase – so many opportunities for the club to move forwards now.”

It didn’t take long for Sugar to hit back at Redknapp on social media.

What Alan Sugar has said in reply to Jamie Redknapp

Taking to X not long after the Spurs game started, British billionaire Sugar, now 78, dismissed Redknapp’s comments as a ‘load of rubbish’.

He then followed this up by saying Redknapp would be ‘hearing from his lawyers Monday’.

“Jamie Redknapr is a double barrel idiot. He talks a load of rubbish. He said when Daniel Levy took over Spurs Alan Sugar left the club in a right mess. He and SKY will be hearing from my lawyers Monday,” he wrote on X.

Just over an hour later he followed his original message up by saying: “I am coming after you Jamie Redknapp idiot.”

Despite this, Sugar persisted with Sky’s coverage of the game, venting about ‘every decision’ going against Spurs after Cristian Romero’s first half header was ruled out. That didn’t matter in the end though, as Tottenham dumped further woe on West Ham, who sit in the Premier League’s bottom three.
