Tottenham Hotspur have had a rollercoaster of a season thus far, recording some impressive wins but also falling to some shocking defeats.

With the January transfer window now on the horizon, Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou could well look at the market to bring in some much-needed reinforcements.

ESPN pundit Mark Ogden has now shared who he believes Tottenham should target in 2025.

He urged Spurs to consider moving for a 24-year-old midfield “magician” whose contract expires next summer.

Tottenham urged to move for Angel Gomes

The player in question is Angel Gomes, who has been a revelation for Lille and recently made his England breakthrough.

Gomes’ contract at Lille only runs until the end of this season, which means he should be available for a relatively low price, according to Ogden.

The ESPN pundit also said he’s “not impressed” by Tottenham’s midfielder and thinks Gomes “would bring something” to N17.

“I just think that Tottenham needs somebody in midfield who can make the game tick over a bit better,” said Ogden when asked why he picked Gomes for Spurs.

“I’m not impressed by Tottenham’s midfield this season. I think Maddison had a drop off and I think I think Gomes is out of contract at the end of the season at Lille so he could be got relatively cheaply.

“He’s got an England career to progress now because obviously he’s been in the last last few squads so I think he will bring something to Tottenham.

“They’ve got quality up front with Son and they need to get Richarlison fit, but obviously Solanke has come in the summer so they’re not going to sign another forward.

“But I just think Angel Gomes would bring something to Tottenham.”

Gomes has been linked with Tottenham in recent weeks, GiveMeSport claiming the former Manchester United man is indeed on Spurs’ radar for 2025.

The report also claimed that Gomes is considering his options ahead of his expected departure from Lille and could demand £150,000-a-week from suitors.

ESPN FC also mentioned another Tottenham player, with pundit Don Hutchison saying Timo Werner has been the worst signing of the season so far.

Gomes a ‘magician’ who can make ‘everything happen’

French football expert Julien Laurens recently told BBC Sport: “He’s one of the best players in Ligue 1, there’s no doubt.

“The fans love him; a player that you enjoy watching because he’s just so elegant, so creative, such a great touch.

“If you know your football, you know that teams need players like Angel Gomes that make everything click and make everything happen.”

Meanwhile, former England Under-17 teammate Jonathan Panzo said: “Angel was always spoken about highly because he’s quality as a player.

“You hear about someone, then you get to see it and you are like ‘they weren’t lying about this player’.

“He is definitely one of the best players I have played with.”

Panzo, who won the Under-17 World Cup with Gomes in 2017, added: “He’s like a magician.

“He’s a small player, but his IQ is so smart and he just knows how to get around the pitch.”
