Tottenham Hotspur have had a very mixed season so far, recording some outstanding results but also delivering some real horror shows.

While a number of Spurs players have done fairly well for themselves, others haven’t exactly stood out or contributed all that much.

Now, ESPN pundit Don Hutchison has named a signing Tottenham made over the summer as the worst in the Premier League so far this season.

Tottenham on-loan forward Timo Werner deemed the Premier League’s worst signing so far this season

The player in question is Timo Werner, who Spurs re-signed on loan from RB Leipzig with an £8.5million option to buy next summer.

Werner has made 13 outings in all competitions for Tottenham this season, of which six have been starts.

The Germany international has up a total of 538 minutes for Spurs this term, and has one goal and one assist to his name.

When asked why he picked Werner as his worst Premier League signing of the season so far, Hutchison replied: “Just a weird signing.

“I mean, Tottenham knew what they were getting when they signed him on loan in the summer.

“What was the point? He didn’t do particularly well last season, they could have given that job to Mikey Moore or a young player coming through

“I just didn’t see the point in the signing and when he plays he doesn’t impress.”

What Alasdair Gold has said about Werner

Alasdair Gold recently gave Werner a rating of 4.5 out of 10 for his efforts so far this season.

“The German has been through it so far this season,” said Gold. “He grabbed an assist at Brighton and his goal against City felt like a big moment after a real crisis in confidence.

“He’s just fluffed too many big moments in front of goal for Spurs and has been carrying a groin injury which has been dogging him.”

Separately, Gold said Werner’s loan is not expected to be terminated in January.

“If Spurs did want to do that, often the option lies with the club that have loaned him out, so Leipzig in this case,” he said on his YouTube channel.

It’s also unlikely that Tottenham will want to lose the 28-year-old as their squad is thin as it is, and sourcing and signing a replacement would be tricky mid-season.
