Tottenham may not have been celebrating a win this weekend, but they will smile watching one of their youngsters listen to his name being sung in the Championship after pulling off a wonder strike.
Spurs drew 2-2 away at Brighton on Saturday, coming back from going 2-0 down thanks to Richarlison’s goal and Jan Paul van Hecke’s own goal late on.
But while Tottenham were breathing a sigh of relief after rescuing a point on the south coast, 21-year-old attacking midfielder Alfie Devine was grinning from ear to ear while being serenaded by the Preston North End away fans.
Preston faced Derby County in the Championship on Saturday afternoon, and Devine – who is on a season-long loan with the Lancashire club after signing a new Spurs deal – was the match winner.

Alfie Devine scores rocket against Derby County to seal Championship win
Devine started against Derby on Saturday afternoon, his seventh appearance in a Preston shirt.
He scored in his second game for them in a 2-1 win over Leicester City, but his strike at Pride Park will feel even sweeter.
With almost half an hour on the clock, Devine picked up the ball from just outside Derby’s box before shifting to his left and firing the ball with his left foot.
His shot went flying straight into the top left hand corner at speed, leaving Rams goalkeeper Jacob Widell Zetterstrom no chance of saving it.
Thanks to the wet weather on Saturday in the Midlands, Devine pulled off a sensational knee slide in front of the travelling fans as he celebrated.
“Strike: unreal. Knee slide: perfect,” Preston posted on X alongside a clip of his goal.
Three other Tottenham loanees score for their new clubs including Luka Vuskovic
Devine wasn’t the only Spurs loanee on target this weekend.
Luka Vuskovic is currently on loan at Hamburg after joining Tottenham this summer following his agreed move from Hajduk Split in 2023 after turning 18.
The £12million centre-back scored his first goal for his new club and his first ever in the Bundesliga in a 2-1 win over Heidenheim on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Tyrese Hall scored twice for League Two Notts County in the 4-0 thumping of Crawley Town.
Wycombe Wanderers loan signing George Abbott was on target for the Chairboys too as they beat Northampton Town 2-0, showing the potential future talent that could be at Thomas Frank’s disposal in the future.
