Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur was handed a seven-match ban by the FA for comments aimed at Heung-min Son last summer.

Ange Postecoglou will be without Bentancur for seven games and he will now need to find a solution to losing one of his key midfielders. Bentancur’s ban was for ‘misconduct in an interview’ following comments aimed at Spurs teammate Son which he is believed to have made last summer.

Now, one of Tottenham’s players has reacted to the news and revealed what the squad are saying about the 27-year-old’s ban.

Ben Davies condemns Rodrigo Bentancur’s comments

Ben Davies has strongly condemned Bentancur’s comments and believes that Tottenham’s players need to understand what he did is not acceptable. However, the Welsh international also accepts the incident has been dealt with correctly and is now a closed matter among the squad.

Speaking in his press conference with Wales, Davies said: “I read the news this morning, probably just like everyone else did. It’s something that it felt like at Spurs it’s been handled in-house and now it’s been handled outside as well.

“As a group, as a team at Tottenham, we’ve all drawn a line under [the incident] and moved on, but I think ultimately, it’s important that we realise that these kind of things need to be looked at with the seriousness that it has been.”

Which Tottenham fixtures will Rodrigo Bentancur miss?

This seven-match ban for Bentancur from the FA has come at just the wrong moment for Tottenham who are facing a hectic schedule with nine matches across the next 29 days.

The midfielder will miss some important games too, including the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Manchester United along with the team’s trip to the Etihad on November 23.

Notably, his ban only applies to domestic competitions, so he will still be eligible to play in the Europa League. Spurs face Roma and Rangers in their next two European games.
