Tottenham predicted XI v Man City as James Maddison decision made and £10m ace comes in

Tottenham Hotspur will be eager to return to winning ways this weekend as they head to Manchester City for a 5:30pm Premier League kick-off.

Spurs have shown they can beat anyone convincingly on their day, as they did at Manchester United and against Aston Villa.

However, Tottenham have also fallen to shock defeats against teams they were favourites to beat, such as Crystal Palace and Ipswich Town.

Questions have been asked of Ange Postecoglou’s style of play at Tottenham, with Alan Shearer recently saying Spurs are lacking consistency.

The Lilywhites will be eager to silence their critics when they head to Man City, a team they have already beaten once before this season.

Tottenham knocked Pep Guardiola’s side out of the Carabao Cup recently, so they’ll be quietly confident they can get another good result against the Citizens.

The Spurs News looks at who Postecoglou could name in Tottenham’s starting XI for the trip to the Etihad Stadium.

In Friday’s pre-match press conference, Ange Postecoglou said Cristian Romero will miss the Man City game due to a foot injury he has been carrying for some weeks now.

Romero joins Micky van de Ven on the sidelines, with the Dutchman not expected back until around mid-December now.

Mikey Moore remains out as he continues to recover from a virus, while Richarlison and Wilson Odobert are long-term absentees.

Rodrigo Bentancur will also miss out as he begins a seven-match ban handed by the FA for comments he made regarding Son Heung-min in summer.

Ben Davies and Yves Bissouma likely to make Tottenham starting XI as James Maddison tipped to miss out

Most of the starting line-up picks itself, though there are a number of enforced absences for Postecoglou to have to contend with.

Guglielmo Vicario is expected to start in goal, while Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie are likely to remain at right-back and left-back respectively.

However, centre-back is where Postecoglou has to bring other players in, due to Romero joining Van de Ven on the sidelines.

Ben Davies looks like the most likely option to partner Radu Dragusin in central defence, the £10million Welshman always doing a solid job when called upon.

Bentancur will also drop out of the starting XI, and his most likely replacement is Yves Bissouma, who has been doing well this season.

Bissouma was given a rating of 6.5 out of 10 by Alasdair Gold during the international break, and was praised for “finding his groove again”.

James Maddison has fallen down the pecking order of late and, though he’s fighting to return to the starting XI, it looks likely that Pape Matar Sarr and Dejan Kulusevski will stay put.

As for the front line, Postecoglou is likely to once again opt for Dominic Solanke leading the line, Brennan Johnson on the right, and captain Son Heung-min on the left.
