Tim Sherwood is adamant that John Heitinga will become the interim manager at Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Thomas Frank.
Following an 11th Premier League defeat of the season, Tottenham decided to sack Frank on Tuesday morning.
Will John Heitinga keep Tottenham in the Premier League this season? 👀
The North London club are now looking to make plans to replace the Danish head coach, and an interim coach looks set to take charge until the end of the season.
Sherwood already knows who Spurs are going to pick, and he thinks it will be a great opportunity for the Dutch coach in the Premier League.
Tim Sherwood thinks Tottenham will appoint John Heitinga
Tim Sherwood thinks Tottenham Hotspur will appoint John Heitinga as their interim manager until the end of the season.
The former Spurs boss believes it will be a ‘great opportunity’ for a coach who is currently out of work, and Heitinga looks likely to be that man.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Sherwood said: “I genuinely believe they are going to give it to John Heitinga, I think he’s a man there already and has experience as a manager.
“It didn’t work out well for him at Ajax, but he’ll be at Tottenham in the Premier League; it’s a great opportunity for someone not in a job.”
Heitinga joined Frank’s coaching staff at Tottenham last month and is now one of the leading contenders to get the job temporarily.
Sum up Thomas Frank’s time at Tottenham in three words
The Dutch coach was an assistant to Arne Slot during Liverpool’s Premier League-winning campaign, before leaving to join Ajax as their manager in the summer.
The 42-year-old lasted just a few months at the Amsterdam ArenA, but he could swiftly return to management at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Tim Sherwood sends Mauricio Pochettino warning to John Heitinga
Sherwood has just warned Heitinga that he will only be kept in the job until the summer, when Spurs will likely appoint Mauricio Pochettino.
Tottenham want Pochettino now; however, he remains committed to the United States national team job and will not be available until after the 2026 World Cup.
“In the summer, it’s going to be Pochettino, it will be almost impossible for Tottenham to look beyond Mauricio Pochettino with the clamour from the Tottenham support to bring him back,” added Sherwood.
