Thomas Frank confirms whether Yves Bissouma will be part of Tottenham’s squad this season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank was asked about Yves Bissouma in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

Bissouma is yet to play a game under the Dane and had been linked with a move to Turkey.

The transfer window there is now closed, so the midfielder will not be joining a Turkish team this year. However, the market in Saudi Arabia remains open.

With a transfer to the Saudi Pro League still possible, Bissouma’s future was one of the topics on the agenda in the Tottenham manager’s recent presser.

Yves Bissouma set to stay at Tottenham

For now, it appears that Bissouma will be remaining at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium despite not making a good initial impression on Frank.

Speaking to football.london and the rest of the English media about the 29-year-old on Friday, Frank said: “I will be surprised if anyone is leaving us now so yes he’s part of the squad.”

So far this season, the former Brentford boss has been using midfielders such as Joao Palhinha, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pape Matar Sarr, who all started in Spurs’ 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth just before the international break.

If Bissouma does stay in north London, he will be competing against that trio, as well as Lucas Bergvall and Archie Gray, for a starting spot.

It is thought that Frank is already a huge fan of Bentancur, so that is one player Bissouma may not be able to dislodge.

Why Thomas Frank had to discipline Yves Bissouma last month

Bissouma and Frank’s relationship did not get off to a good start, with the Mali international being dropped for Tottenham’s UEFA Super Cup game against Paris Saint-Germain for constant lateness.

Explaining why Bissouma had been left out, Frank told BBC Sport and others: “Bissouma isn’t here because of disciplinary reasons. He has been late several times, the latest one too many.”

With less than a year remaining on his contract, it would be a surprise if Bissouma still had a future in north London.

For the time being, though, he is set to remain with Frank’s squad and now needs to take any chance his manager affords him.
