Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has found his game time limited under Ange Postecoglou this season, so far only playing for 17% of Spurs’ Premier League season.
Only starting in the EFL Cup this season, Hojbjerg was once a regular for Spurs and arguably one of their best players.
He has been regularly playing for his nation, Denmark, playing the full 90 minutes in their 3-1 win over Kazakhstan on Saturday, as they look to qualify for Euro 2024.
Hojbjerg speaks out on limited game time
Hojbjerg has finally spoken out about his minimal action in the league this season. Speaking to Danish outlet Ekstra Bladet, he said that it has not been explained to him by anyone at the club as to why he has not been playing as much as he has been in previous seasons.
“I don’t have that dialogue, to be honest. My approach to it is to keep the focus on the things I can do something about. I have to be ready to help the team if I am called. So, I make sure to train well and keep my nose straight in track.”
Hojbjerg says ‘things are working well’ at Spurs
Hojbjerg has found himself replaced by Yves Bissouma and Pape Matar Sarr, who have both starred in Spurs’ midfield this season.
The 28-year-old did say though that this will be something he has to ‘learn from’.
“We are playing a new kind of football than we did last season, and we have got a new coaching team.
“Things work really well. We are in a very good position in the league, even though it is only a short time into the season, and we are making really good progress.
“So, it’s all about keeping up. I haven’t played as much as I’ve been used to, but it’s also something you take with you and have to accept it and learn from.”
Unless he leaves in January, with reported moves to Atletico Madrid and Juventus being mooted, he may have his chance when Bissouna and Sarr are both called up to the Africa Cup of Nations.
