Rafael van der Vaart has just aimed a cheeky dig at Micky van de Ven after the Tottenham Hotspur defender joked about the temperatures at the World Cup.
The Netherlands’ first game of the tournament is against Japan in Dallas, where temperatures could be around 30 degrees.
Fill in the blank: Micky van de Ven is worth £__m in this current market?
The Netherlands recently struggled in the heat as they just about defeated Uzbekistan in the build-up to the World Cup.
Van de Ven both struggled against Uzbekistan, and after questioning the heat in the United States, he did not receive any sympathy from one of Spurs’ legends.
Rafael van der Vaart slams Micky van de Ven’s heat complaint
Rafael van der Vaart says he would not be taking any advice from Micky van de Ven, as he was part of the team that almost relegated Tottenham.
Speaking about the temperature ahead of the World Cup, Van de Ven told the media: “After that match, we’re going into the sauna for a bit to get even warmer.”
Van der Vaart was not particularly impressed by the Spurs defender and reminded him that he nearly helped to relegate his former club.
Talking to Ziggo Sport, Van der Vaart said: “Well, Micky van de Ven almost got relegated with one of the finest clubs in Europe, Spurs. So, I wouldn’t follow his advice if I were them.”
Micky van de Ven has much to prove at the World Cup
Van de Ven is coming off the back of a poor season with Tottenham and has much to prove with the Dutch national team this summer.
The 25-year-old is expected to start at left-back for Ronald Koeman’s team, with Spurs target Jan Paul van Hecke also playing at centre-back.
👀With 12 months left on his contract, how much should we pay at the most to sign the £70m-rated Jan Paul van Hecke?
Van der Vaart is a fan of Van Hecke, but has warned Spurs against spending £70 million to bring him to North London this summer.
Van de Ven has advised Van Hecke to join him at Tottenham, and once the World Cup is over, the pair are set to become clubmates.
Holland kick off their World Cup campaign on Sunday as they face Japan, before taking on Sweden and Tunisia.
