Rafael van der Vaart has admitted he is a big fan of Jan Paul van Hecke, but £70 million is way too much for Tottenham to sign him.
Van Hecke is valued at £70 million by Brighton, although whether they will actually get that is another matter.
👀With 12 months left on his contract, how much should we pay at the most to sign the £70m-rated Jan Paul van Hecke?
Tottenham have already agreed terms with Van Hecke and are now in talks with the Seagulls over a deal for the 26-year-old.
Ahead of his move to his former club, Van der Vaart has issued his honest assessment of fellow Dutchman, Van Hecke.
Rafael van der Vaart questions Jan Paul van Hecke’s £70 million valuation
Rafael van der Vaart has raised question marks over whether Jan Paul van Hecke is really worth the £70 million valuation Brighton have set on him.
After nearly getting relegated, Van der Vaart cannot believe Spurs would be willing to pay such money on a player like Van Hecke.
Although Van der Vaart is definitely a fan of the 26-year-old still backs him to be a solid signing for his former club.
Speaking to Ziggo Sport, Van der Vaart said: “Yes, I have to be honest, I am a fan of Van Hecke, but when I hear €80 million for Van Hecke, my football heart cries.
“Those are the kinds of fees that, sorry, just don’t belong with players like that. The fact that Tottenham are willing to pay for a team that almost got relegated…”
👀Who should be the FIRST Tottenham player sold this summer?🤔
Van der Vaart is definitely exaggerating when it comes to Tottenham’s deal for Van Hecke, which is likely to be in the price range between £45 million and £50 million.
Spurs have had two bids rejected for Van Hecke already, but with Roberto De Zerbi pushing to sign him, the club are set to return with a third.
The Dutch international is set to start for the Netherlands at the World Cup, alongside Micky van de Ven.
