Neal Maupay brutally trolls James Maddison as Tottenham star dropped from Euro 2024 England squad

Tottenham Hotspur will have a handful of players in international action this summer but James Maddison will not be one of them.

Ange Postecoglou would be forgiven for selfishly liking that some of his key players won’t be in action this summer.

Euro 2024 and Copa America are on the horizon but some Tottenham Hotspur players won’t be making the trips, saving their legs for Premier League action.

Pedro Porro has been dropped by Spain and Timo Werner isn’t in the Germany squad, whilst Brennan Johnson and Dejan Kulusevski aren’t involved having failed to qualify.

Destiny Udogie misses out through injury but the likes of Guglilemo Vicario, Radu Dragusin, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur will be in action.

James Maddison may have been expecting to be part of that list too, but the Tottenham playmaker has been hit with a real blow.

England boss Gareth Southgate has decided to leave Maddison out of his Euro 2024 squad, robbing the Spurs ace of a chance to play in a major tournament.

Neal Maupay reacts to James Maddison snub

This was unthinkable in the first few months of the season.

Maddison started the campaign on fire and appeared to be establishing himself in the England squad.

Injury hit in November though and Maddison struggled to get back to his best form in the final stages of the campaign.

The rise of Cole Palmer hasn’t exactly helped either and Maddison now finds himself out of the picture for Euro 2024.

Maddison has taken to social media to react, admitting that he is ‘devastated’ to have been left out.

Whilst Tottenham fans feel for Maddison, it’s fair to say that Everton striker Neal Maupay has a slightly different reaction.

The Frenchman had something of a spat with Maddison earlier this year, copying his darts celebration after scoring for Brentford against Tottenham.

The pair took jabs at each other on social media and in the press and Maupay is now at it again.

Maupay has taken to social media to simply post a photo of himself holding three darts whilst showing off a big smile on his face.

This seems pretty pointed towards Maddison and his Euro 2024 snub, though many will be quick to point out that Maupay has never come close to picking up a France cap, never mind play at a major tournament for them.

Maddison needs to use this as inspiration

There is no getting away from the magnitude of his blow for Maddison.

Having never featured for England at a major tournament, this seemed like the ideal opportunity to make his dream a reality.

Instead, form and fitness have contributed to him being axed and having to watch Euro 2024 from afar.

Maddison must now use this blow to really kick on and prove Southgate wrong, but also shut Maupay up once again.

Tottenham fans will be behind Maddison all the way and will hope to see him back to his best next season as he now looks to push on towards the 2026 World Cup.
