Villarreal defender Juan Foyth has not been afraid to criticise himself since leaving Tottenham Hotspur.
Foyth joined Villarreal permanently from Tottenham in 2021 and is set for a reunion with his former club on Tuesday.
The Yellow Submarine take on Spurs in the Champions League at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
One of Foyth’s teammates, Ayoze Perez, has a terrible record against Tottenham but will be hoping that he can improve it this week.

Juan Foyth felt he didn’t deserve to play under Jose Mourinho
At Tottenham, Foyth got to work under two top managers in Jose Mourinho and Mauricio Pochettino.
Foyth only made three appearances under the Special One, but the centre-back admitted in a 2022 interview that he did not warrant being selected at times.
Speaking to Onda Cero, Foyth said: “When he arrived, I was fine, but I had moments where I didn’t deserve to play. I wanted to leave and have more continuity.”
At Villarreal, the Argentine has also missed a lot of games, but that is largely down to injuries. In total, though, Foyth has still been able to make 139 appearances for the club.
Villarreal’s trip to north London will also see Manor Solomon face Tottenham, who still own the winger.
Spurs allowed Solomon to join Villarreal on deadline day, with the 26-year-old not part of Thomas Frank’s plans.

Juan Foyth’s Tottenham record
In the end, Foyth was only able to make around 30 appearances at Spurs before signing for Villarreal permanently.
| Juan Foyth’s Tottenham record | Total |
| Appearances | 32 |
| Goals | 1 |
| Assists | 0 |
| Yellow cards | 7 |
| Red cards | 1 |
Foyth needed that move and his career in Spain is going smoother despite some of the injuries that he has picked up.
His international career has not been bad either. Foyth has earned 21 caps for Argentina and was part of their 2022 World Cup-winning squad.
Glory in the Champions League with Villarreal is unlikely, but a victory over his old side on Tuesday is not impossible.
Spurs are in good form, though, beating their London rivals West Ham United 3-0 over the weekend. Foyth and Co will have to be at their best to secure all three points in their Champions League opener.
