Villarreal star has already lost nine times against Tottenham ahead of Champions League clash

One Villarreal player has bad memories from playing against his side’s upcoming Champions League opponents Tottenham Hotspur.

Villarreal travel to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Tuesday to take on Thomas Frank’s men in Europe’s elite competition.

It is a game that will see Juan Foyth reunite with his former club, whom he left in 2021.

While Foyth will be expected to play in central defence, former Newcastle United and Leicester City striker Ayoze Perez could start in attack.

During his time in England, Perez met Tottenham on 12 occasions, with the Europa League winners often getting the better of the 32-year-old.

Perez was on the losing side nine times in games against Spurs and only managed to score two goals.

Nevertheless, the Spaniard is still a good attacker and one Spurs will have to be wary of on Tuesday.

Frank, of course, also has players who can hurt Villarreal, including new signing Xavi Simons. Simons joined Tottenham from RB Leipzig in the summer and was excellent against West Ham United over the weekend.

The attacking midfielder grabbed an assist on his debut, helping his side to win 3-0. Frank lauded Simons’ first appearance for Spurs after the London derby, describing it as “promising”.

Tottenham set to come up against several ex-Premier League players

Perez and Foyth are not the only former Premier League stars who will be making the trip to north London.

Marcelino Garcia Toral’s squad also includes Nicolas Pepe, Thomas Partey and Renato Veiga. Tottenham also loaned Manor Solomon to the Spanish club at the end of the summer transfer window.

Solomon did not fear competition from Mohammed Kudus, but in the end, he decided that it would be best for him to leave Tottenham.

Villarreal have made a promising start to the season, winning two of their first four games. But so have Tottenham, who will be feeling confident right now after their impressive victory over West Ham.
