Ange Postecoglou’s treatment of one of his summer signings has led a journalist to believe that the Tottenham Hotspur boss does not rate him.

Spurs made five summer signings with Dominic Solanke, Archie Gray, Wilson Odobert, Lucas Bergvall and Yang Min-hyeok all being added to the squad.

Tottenham’s transfer business has already been criticised by some supporters as they believe the club signed too many youngsters who aren’t ready to make an immediate impact.

Solanke is the only one of the five new additions who has worked his way into Postecoglou’s team with the others all struggling for minutes.

Fears Ange Postecoglou doesn’t rate Lucas Bergvall

Swedish journalist Tobias Hellgren is fearful that Postecoglou does not rate Lucas Bergvall at Tottenham given his comments and treatment of the young midfielder.

Postecoglou keeps mentioning that the 18-year-old has much to learn and is playing very little at the moment which only points towards the manager not trusting him right now.

Hellgren told Fotboll Skanalen: “There is something to interpret in Ange’s words as well: he is simply not convinced of Bergvall’s current ability.

“He has returned to the fact that the Swede has ‘more to learn’ so many times that everyone has understood that he thinks so. Subtly, Ange probably wants to convey instead that Bergvall is not quite ready for the Premier League.”

Bergvall’s limited minutes under Postecoglou

Bergvall is yet to complete 90 minutes under the Aussie manager and has often been subbed off around the 65-minute mark when he has started.

When Radu Dragusin was shown a red card against Qarabag, Postecoglou sacrificed Bergvall to bring on another defender instead, another move which shows his lack of trust in the Swede.

“After a couple of successful appearances at the beginning of the season, Bergvall has not played a minute in the last five league games. Only in the Europa League, where the team is properly aired,” Hellgen added.

“Even in the embarrassing loss against Ipswich on Sunday, the offensive Swede did not get any playing time. Not even when Tottenham were chasing an equaliser. Bergvall was the first to smoke at the red card against Qarabag. Being easy to sacrifice is often a good indicator of how high you stand with your coach.”

The Spurs News understands that Tottenham do not want to loan Bergvall in January and see him as an important part of the squad. The North London club are pleased with his progression and believe he is learning from being in the first-team at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
