Lucas Bergvall was withdrawn after just 12 minutes against Qarabag as the midfielder made way for Destiny Udogie.

A red card for Radu Dragusin in the seventh minute meant that Ange Postecoglou needed to bring on another defender and Bergvall was the player sacrificed. The midfielder did not look best pleased at being hauled off so early as he sat looking very despondent on the bench during the game.

The Swede has had to be patient in waiting for his turn at the North London club with the Europa League Carabao Cup where he is getting his chances. Bergvall has finally given his honest take on being withdrawn so early against Qarabag.

Lucas Bergvall ‘disappointed’ by early substitution vs Qarabag

Bergvall has admitted he was ‘disappointed’ at being taken off after just 12 minutes in Tottenham’s Europa League opener but he understood the decision and just has to move on.

Dragusin was shown a red card after just seven minutes which meant Postecoglou had to make a change his back-line and he opted for the 18-year-old as the player to bring off.

Bergvall told Fotbolldirekt: “Of course I was disappointed, but you should be. I just have to let it go, I completely understood the decision. It was just a matter of letting go and moving on.”

The teenager has made eight appearances for the club so far but has played just 46 minutes in the Premier League.
