Tottenham Hotspur secured the services of one of South Korea’s most talented young players by signing Yang Min-Hyeok.

Spurs paid around £3.3 million to sign the 18-year-old from Gangwon FC and Yang will join Ange Postecoglou’s squad in January 2025.

The winger is enjoying an incredible breakout campaign from signing for Spurs to being on the verge of helping Gangwon win their first K-League title.

Yang was named K-League Player of the Month for July becoming the first rookie to win the award as he scored three goals and registered one assist.

Ahead of his move to London in the winter, Jesse Lingard spoke to the teenager before FC Seoul’s game against Gangwon.

Jesse Lingard offers help Yang Min-Hyeok settle at Tottenham

Lingard has told Tottenham’s new boy Min-Hyeok Yang that he will enjoy London and offered him help to settle in the capital.

The former Manchester United star was introduced to the teenager by Seoul teammate Joo-Hyuk Kang ahead of Seoul’s 2-0 win over Gangwon.

Kang told Lingard that ‘he [Yang] is studying English but it is not easy’ to which Lingard responded: “You will like London. London is a top city. If he needs any help, I’ll help him.”

Spurs’ latest recruit will also have fellow countryman Heung-min Son on hand to help when he arrives in England.

Yang Min-Hyeok receives first South Korean call-up

Yang has just received his first call-up to the national team for World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Palestine and Oman.

The call-up is another strong indication of his progress this season in which he has eight goals and five assists.

He is joined by national team and club captain Heung-min Son in Hong Myung-bo’s first squad after he replaced Jurgen Klinsmann.

Speaking on August 26, the South Korean head coach told Reuters: “I think he [Yang] has done enough this season to deserve a spot on the national team.

“His body of work for this season speaks for itself, and I think this was the right time to give him this opportunity.

“A lot of people have high expectations of him, and I hope he can do some good things for us here. And it’s up to him to keep earning these chances.”
