While most international breaks are dull periods for supporters of Premier League clubs, Tottenham fans will remember this one forever. That is following last week’s announcement that Daniel Levy stepped down from his role as the club’s chairman.
After nearly 25 years at Spurs, Daniel Levy officially stepped down from his role running the football club.
Of course, we’ve seen plenty of positive things in the past two decades, including regular European football. The work off the pitch has turned Spurs into one of the world’s best-run clubs, with an outstanding stadium and training facilities.
However, there has been public unrest from large sections of the fanbase towards Levy for a long time, fuelled by an anger of just two trophies in almost 25 years. Many supporters feel they could have got over the line with a bit more investment and focus on the playing side of things.
Martin Jol’s assessment of Levy is that he’s been regularly let down by his recruitment staff at Spurs.

Jermain Defoe defends Daniel Levy from Tottenham fans
Jermain Defoe, who played at Spurs during the Levy era, has defended him from critical supporters. The retired striker has been keen to highlight the successful impact Levy has made to leave the club in a very strong position.
When discussing Levy’s Spurs exit, Defoe told Sky Sports Premier League: “When I saw the news, I was surprised like everyone else. I didn’t see that coming.
“I think he deserves a lot of credit, Daniel. Again, there is a lot of noise around Tottenham, and the fans are not happy with not winning enough trophies in his time at the club. But when you look at the infrastructure and training ground… Daniel spoke about having the best in class, and I think what he meant by that is having the best stadium that the fans and everyone a part of Tottenham can be proud of. Having the best training ground, which we’ve certainly got – one of the best training grounds in Europe.
“We’ve got a new manager in Thomas Frank, and the recruitment has been good. We’ve signed some top players. Now it’s a case of trying to win more trophies… Can this group of players kick on and go win more trophies? It seems like the perfect time to be at this football club.”
In fairness, Spurs have all the tools in place to kick on and be successful with the right ambition.
Even though Spurs CEO Vinai Venkatesham insists they won’t go crazy in the transfer market, there is certainly a lot of anticipation and excitement about the new era moving forward.

Heung-Min Son the best Tottenham signing of the Daniel Levy era
Yes, there have been some real howlers in the transfer window over the years at Spurs. The frustration for fans is they’ve never got quite it right when they’ve been on the brink of something special.
However, we’ve seen so many fantastic signings in the 21st century.
We would pick out Heung-Min Son, who left North London in the summer after a decade at the club, as the best signing under Levy.
The South Korean attacker joined for £22m (BBC) from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015, scoring 173 goals in 454 appearances. Eventually, he was the captain to lift the Europa League trophy in May to end a 17-year wait for silverware.
