James Maddison reveals the Tottenham player who is ‘absolutely hilarious’ behind the scenes at Spurs

To say that Tottenham have a number of polarising characters among their squad would be an understatement.

Cristian Romero is famed for being a fiery South American, meanwhile, James Maddison’s confidence and perceived arrogance has been backed up by his claims that he likes to be the ‘main man’ at family roasts.

Another one of Tottenham’s polarising characters is Brazilian forward Richarlison – a player who has divided opinion since his N17 arrival.

Having struggled to stay fit since joining from Everton, Richarlison suffered a new injury against Aston Villa and is likely to be out for a number of weeks.

Now set for another spell on the sidelines, Maddison believes the forward’s impact will still be felt in the Spurs dressing room, despite him not being able to get onto the pitch.

James Maddison claims Spurs teammate Richarlison is ‘hilarious’

It would be fair to say that the Brazilian’s Spurs career has not been plain sailing so far, to say the least.

Last summer saw Richarlison heavily linked with a Saudi move, with the forward opting to stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a bid to fight for his place.

Despite struggling to make waves in north London, Richarlison has reportedly made an impact off the pitch however – particularly on the training ground.

Speaking on the Golf Life YouTube channel, Maddison gave fans an insight into the Spurs dressing room and revealed what Richarlison is like away from the cameras.

“Yeh, great group. We’ve got a good balance of British lads, and we’ve also got a big South American group and they are all hilarious – someone like Richarlison, who doesn’t speak the language brilliantly but is absolutely hilarious in the group chat, saying English phrases he’s learnt that just make no sense at any time, then he will just throw it in and make you think that was random – he’s funny.”

What does the future hold for Richarlison amid latest injury?

Spurs fans will no doubt love to hear that Richarlison is a big part of the Tottenham dressing room but they will also be hoping for more when it comes to the Brazilian’s future in north London.

Since arriving from Merseyside in 2022, Richarlison has suffered numerous injury setbacks which have ultimately derailed any chance of him building any sort of momentum.

Ange Postecoglou revealed Richarlison will be “out for a while” following the Brazilian’s injury against Aston Villa – an injury which is the latest in a long list of setbacks.

With Dominic Solanke now leading the Spurs frontline to good effect, it is tough to see where Richarlison’s future now lies – especially if he is unable to shake off his worrying injury record.
