Ramon Vega reveals he played through the same injury as Vicario
Tottenham hero Ramon Vega has revealed how he played through the same injury as Guglielmo Vicario during the 1999 League Cup Final. Spurs defeated Leicester City 1-0 at Wembley to lift the trophy for a third time after Allan Nielsen netted a stoppage-time winner for George Graham’s side.
Vega has now explained that he broke his ankle during the Cup Final but still managed to continue just like the Italian did against Man City. Vicario revealed he played for 60 minutes with the injury at the Etihad Stadium and still kept a clean sheet.
Vega revealed on X: “I empathize with you, Guglielmo Vicario, as I experienced the same injury. I played through the 1999 Cup Final at Wembley, and the only difference is that I earned a medal and trophy for the club that day. I truly hope you recover quickly and have the opportunity to win a trophy for the club soon. COYS!”
How long is Guglielmo Vicario expected to miss?
Vicario is set to miss six to 10 weeks with an ankle injury after undergoing surgery. Over a busy Christmas period, Vicario could miss as many as 17 matches across all competitions.
