Tottenham Hotspur forward Brennan Johnson was forced to delete his Instagram account in the wake of Spurs’ defeat to Arsenal following a tirade of fan abuse.

Some Spurs supporters decided they were going to target the winger following the defeat in a game where none of the team’s players performed particularly well.

The 22-year-old quickly silenced his critics as he netted the winning goal during Tottenham’s 2-1 victory over Coventry in the EFL Cup.

He then scored the crucial goal again for the North London club as he bagged in their 3-1 win against Brentford.

His captain Heung-min Son has now sent a message to the fans who decided to aim abuse towards Johnson on social media.

Son upset by the abuse Johnson has received

Sonny has revealed he is very upset with the fans who abused Johnson which forced him to delete his Instagram account.

Son told Sports Chosun: “The situation with Brennan has been just sad, really. He’s a really young player, and it’s really sad when someone’s feelings and performances are affected negatively by what he had to suffer off the pitch.

“But Brennan was able to battle it because he is someone with a strong mentality, a strong heart. He is a very, very nice kid and works harder than anyone.”

The South Korean admits the whole Tottenham squad was delighted to see him score again versus Brentford: “So I think every player was so happy to see him score and perform well today. I hope Brennan really enjoys today and has the happiest day anyone can have,” Son added.

Johnson has responded to doubters in the best possible way

Johnson has responded to his critics in the best possible way with strong performances and key goals in both of his last two appearances.

His last-gasp winner against Coventry was particularly impressive as he showed great calmness to just poke the ball over the goalkeeper.

Johnson also produced a great finish against Brentford as he fired his shot across goal and past Mark Flekken for the goal that proved to be the winner.
