Tottenham Hotspur got their Premier League campaign under way on Monday night with a 1-1 draw away at Leicester City.

Spurs hit the ground running at the King Power Stadium as Pedro Porro opened his team’s account in the 29th minute.

The Spanish full-back made a brilliant late run as James Maddison curled the ball into the box, and he glanced the ball into the back of the net.

However, for all of Tottenham’s dominance in the first half, they couldn’t pull further ahead and were made to pay for it on 57 minutes.

Leicester’s first shot on target yielded the equaliser as Abdul Fatawu’s cross from the right was headed in by the unmarked Jamie Vardy from five yards out.

The game saw Tottenham record signing Dominic Solanke make his debut for the club following his £65million move from Bournemouth.

Plenty of pundits and presenters, including Harry Redknapp, Ally McCoist and Gary Neville, had their say on the Spurs newcomer’s display.

Harry Redknapp

The Spurs cult hero began by saying on talkSPORT (20/8/2024, 8:12am): “I like him.

“I watched him, you know, I am a regular at Bournemouth, I go to all the games and I have seen him over the last, I don’t know, how many years he has been there now.

When you look at him, great physique, holds the ball, scores goals, good in the air, he is a good all-round player.

“A quiet lad, I mean, he is not an extrovert. Off the pitch, he is a very quiet guy.

“Going into a different dressing room. Once he settles in, I think he could do very well. I like him. His movement is excellent.”

Ally McCoist

The Scotland legend said on talkSPORT (20/8/2024, 8:11am): “I thought he had a couple of headers he probably should have done a little bit better.

“However, my impression was that I thought well. He looks as though he will be a success at Tottenham.”

Gary Neville

The Manchester United icon had some words of advice for the Spurs newcomer on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football.

“I think he will feel like everything went as well it could have done apart from the fact the most important thing, that just there [the header],” he said.

“The goal, I hope he doesn’t take it to heart to much. His pressing is really important to Spurs and why they have signed him.

“My view on Solanke is that this is a test for him because there will be people, there will be murmurs that he should have taken his chances.

“He had moments, like Richarlison at the end, but I think his overall performance was good.

“But he will judge upon moments like this where he had two or three decent chances.

“He needs to make sure he doesn’t beat himself up too much in the next two or three days.

“I would like to think he looks on the positives that he had a really good game apart from the most important things.

“He will get goals if he keeps doing that as I thought his overall performance was good.”

Danny Murphy

The former Liverpool man said on talkSPORT (19/8/2024, 10:02pm): I thought Solanke had some good moments, but he’s waiting on service from wide areas.

“Every time they got in good positions, the service didn’t come.”

Simon Jordan

The former Crystal Palace chairman said on talkSPORT, via their YouTube channel: “I think he did enough to illustrate that once he finds his feet and finds his surroundings and knows his teammates a bit better than he currently does, it looks to me that he will do alright for Spurs.”

Several media outlets, including Alasdair Gold’s football.london, also had their say on how Solanke did on his Tottenham debut.
