Tottenham Hotspur have just been told the latest on Guglielmo Vicario’s return date from injury and how it could impact their January transfer plans.
Vicario suffered a fractured ankle against Man City last month and he is now set for an extended period on the sidelines. For now, Fraser Forster is Ange Postecoglou’s first-choice goalkeeper and the 36-year-old has done a decent job filling in for the Italian.
Now after learning when Vicario is likely to return from his injury, the Lilywhites have started putting plans together ahead of the January transfer window.

Guglielmo Vicario is expected back in February
The Spurs News exclusively spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey of TBR Football to learn the latest about Guglielmo Vicario’s injury and he has revealed that the 28-year-old is now expected back in February, potentially late January, although the North London club will not rush him back. The worst-case scenario is March or April time which may force Tottenham’s hand in the January window.
Bailey told The Spurs News: “At best they are looking at February at worst March/April, it depends on the rehab but I think they are hoping for February – they won’t put pressure on it.”
Tottenham assessing goalkeeper options
Tottenham have started drawing up plans for the goalkeeper position with the need to factor in Forster’s performances and Vicario’s return date. At this stage, nothing is anticipated to happen in January, however, those plans could well change the closer we get to the January window.
“I think they are assessing the options out there. If there was a good free agent, he’d already be there. The loan market is another option, January will be quite useful for this. Forster is going to get his chance, the club like him and they’ll see how they go,” said Bailey.
“They’re in a position to do something in January, I’m not anticipating something at the moment, but let’s see how he [Forster] gets on over the Christmas period and by then they’ll have an even better assessment of Vicario by that point.”
