Ange Postecoglou has just made his plans for replacing the injured Guglielmo Vicario very clear as the January transfer window approaches.
Vicario revealed that he played for 60 minutes against Manchester City with a fractured ankle and still became the first Premier League player to keep a clean sheet against Pep Guardiola’s side this term.
The North London club’s supporters have been calling for Spurs to dip into the transfer market for a goalkeeper when it opens in January.
Postecoglou’s current first choice to replace Vicario is Fraser Forster and the Australian manager has just made his feelings clear over the situation.

Ange Postecoglou ready to put his trust in Fraser Forster
The Spurs News exclusively spoke to transfer insider Graeme Bailey of TBR Football, who revealed that Tottenham have no plans to sign a goalkeeper in January with Ange Postecoglou ready to place his trust in Fraser Forster until Guglielmo Vicario returns.
Vicario is expected to be out for six to eight weeks which would see him return sometime in January. Meanwhile, Spurs’ options during the winter window as to who they could sign are likely to be very limited.
Bailey told The Spurs News: “It hasn’t fast-tracked it because whoever they would want they would be unlikely to get in January anyway. I’m told they are not looking to bring in another goalkeeper in January. A fractured ankle sounds worse than it is, it’s generally six to eight weeks. From what I’m told, Vicario should be back sometime in January.
“Obviously they have Fraser Forster and he’s played a lot more games than most veteran number twos, so I don’t think they’re overall worried by the situation. I don’t believe they have plans to bring another in. I think they’re fairly happy with Forster. Who would be available in January? The options are very limited.”
How did Fraser Forster do the last time he had a run in the Spurs team?
The last time Forster had a run of games for Tottenham was when Hugo Lloris was injured towards the end of the 2022/23 season. It’s tricky to judge him off this period as Spurs were really struggling having just sacked Antonio Conte and then Cristian Stellini.
His first game of this run was the disastrous 6-1 defeat away at Newcastle United. Spurs won just once during his time in goal which was a 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace.
