Gary Neville shares what he said about Tottenham Hotspur’s squad before beating Manchester United

Tottenham Hotspur walked into Old Trafford and destroyed Manchester United on Sunday afternoon, securing a deserved 3-0 win.

Ange Postecoglou has had his doubters in recent weeks but few Tottenham Hotspur fans will have much to complain about right now.

Tottenham dismantled Manchester United from start to finish and the only surprise is that this only finished 3-0.

A sensational run from Micky van de Ven left United players in his wake as he found Brennan Johnson from the opener.

Dejan Kulusevski added number two in an ‘unreal’ display – not our words, the words of Van de Ven himself.

Dominic Solanke then made it 3-0, handing Tottenham a superb victory at Old Trafford.

Gary Neville on Tottenham Hotspur squad

That is now four wins in a row across all competitions for Postecoglou as he quietens some of the doubters.

The challenge now is for Tottenham to really kick on and keep this momentum going with fixtures coming thick and fast.

One man who was certainly impressed on Sunday was Gary Neville.

The pundit praised Mikey Moore for his cameo off the bench at Old Trafford and has also hailed the Tottenham squad as a whole.

Speaking on the Gary Neville Podcast, Neville suggested that Tottenham have ‘the bones’ of a really good team.

Neville even noted that he looked at the two squads before the game and preferred Tottenham’s to United’s – despite the Red Devils splashing more than £600million under Erik ten Hag.

Neville added that Spurs were still miles better than United without the injured Son Heung-min, who he still considers to be Tottenham’s best player.

“They’ve got the bones of a good team, Spurs, but they’re just a little bit light just because they haven’t got the squad and the depth of everybody else,” said Neville.

“Do you know something, it’s interesting sometimes, you just think ‘I’m confident about Manchester United’, I think I said it to you actually [Peter Drury] in the truck. I then looked at the Tottenham team from last week and I looked at the Manchester United team that played at Palace and I thought… Tottenham’s team is better. I actually said it before the game.

“I looked at the teams that played last week in their respective Premier League fixtures and thought… Tottenham’s team, I actually would prefer than the United one that played at Palace and that’s a worry, £650million in.

“Ange Postecoglou has had nothing like that to spend but they have a good team – and that’s without their best player today,” he added.

Tottenham quality will cause envy at Old Trafford

Tottenham were better on the pitch but clearly had the names on paper to impress Neville.

United have thrown good money after bad at Ten Hag’s squad with very few success stories along the way.

Ten Hag is still seeking a solid defence even after splashing the cash on Noussair Mazraoui, Matthijs de Ligt and Lisandro Martinez.

Pedro Porro, Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven aren’t perfect but have shown more quality in the Premier League.

United have invested big money in both Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee but Tottenham’s Dominic Solanke looks to be a more guaranteed source of goals.

Destiny Udogie, James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski, Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma… this Tottenham squad is full of quality.

Knitting it all together is the challenge for Postecoglou but Spurs will feel a sense of good value for money – something United can’t claim on many signings over the last 10 years.
