The weekend’s action saw Spurs and Brighton share the spoils in a captivating 2-2 draw at the Amex.
Thomas Frank should be encouraged by the resilience shown by his team to come back from two goals behind against a solid Brighton side.
It’s not the result fans would have wanted, but it’s a good point given the circumstances.
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have dissected all the Premier League action from this weekend, naming two Spurs players who they were most impressed by.
Two new signings stood out for Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer against Brighton
The comeback effort was spurred on by two attackers, one of whom was only introduced on the hour mark. They are the ones earning the praise of two Premier League greats.
On the latest episode of The Rest Is Football, Lineker and Shearer laud Mohammed Kudus and Xavi Simons for their peformances.
Shearer says: “Kudus did well again I thought he was a real threat, yeah.”
The Ghanaian appears to be settling in well to life in North London. Brighton’s Ferdi Kadioglu had all the answers for Kudus in the first half, sticking to him like clay and making it difficult for the winger to impact the game.
But the second half was a different story. As fatigue came into play, Kudus began to get the better of his man on nearly every attempt, and it was his whipped cross that led to the equalising own goal.
Lineker also wants to give Simons his flowers. He offered Spurs an injection of creativity and energy when he was introduced, looking at home in the number 10 role.
As Lineker puts it: “Yeah, I think Simons will do all right as well. You know, he had a couple of opportunities where he perhaps could have done better with the finish, but he was busy and looked a threat as well.”
The second goal looked like it would come from one of them, and it was actually the pair combining in the end.
The new signings are certainly making an impact from the outset.
Doncaster is the perfect opportunity to start Simons in the 10
Simons looked great in a more central position, and his presence in the Spurs attack will be huge for them this season.
The best thing for him now would be to open his Spurs account, and the midweek clash with Doncaster in the Carabao Cup could present that opportunity.

Frank will want to rotate to account for three games in six days, but a Simons start on Wednesday would be a wise move.
For new signings, confidence is everything, and you would back the Dutchman to find joy against the League One side. It could be that one top performance sets the £52 million signing on a hot run of form.
