Now that the final international break of the calendar year is under way, Tottenham Hotspur can now take stock of numerous things.
It has been a very up-and-down season for Spurs, who have shown they can hammer anyone on their day but have also fallen to shock defeats.
Tottenham can now also focus on things like contract discussions and, according to Fabrizio Romano, they have “started the process” regarding one of the club’s star players.

Fabrizio Romano says Tottenham are activating Son Heung-min contract clause
Romano took to X on Wednesday night to say Tottenham have started the process to activate the clause to extend Heung-min Son‘s contract until June 2026.
The transfer inside also said that “the plan of the club” is to hand their captain “at least one more season” at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
As things stand, Son’s contract runs until the end of the season.
Son was expecting to hold talks over Tottenham long-term contract
Although this may seem like good news, there have been reports suggesting this is actually less than what Son was after.
TalkSPORT recently reported that Tottenham have held off on negotiations with Son over a long-term deal, much to the player’s surprise.
The South Korea international was reportedly expecting to hold talks over a new long-term contract at Spurs.
Instead, Spurs have seemingly decided to activate the year’s option in his existing agreement, tying him down until the summer of 2026.
Son has been a revelation at Tottenham since his £22million move from Bayer Leverkusen back in 2015.
He has made 419 appearances in all competitions for Spurs, scoring 165 goals and registering 87 assists.
Son is also the only player still at Tottenham who competed in the 2019 Champions League final for Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
While this is going on, Spurs will also look to stabilise things in wake of their shock loss against Ipswich last weekend.
