Dutch reporter makes claim about Micky van de Ven’s transfer worth at Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou will simply be hoping that his top players return from the international break unscathed.

The end of the second international break of the season is now in sight and Tottenham Hotspur players need to return with a big performance.

Tottenham’s last outing was the 3-2 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion – the worst loss of Ange Postecoglou’s spell as Spurs boss.

Spurs were 2-0 up at the break but contrived to lose the game 3-2 in a truly disastrous defeat.

West Ham United are next up for Tottenham and Postecoglou will be seeking a big reaction from his players after that defeat at Brighton.

First things first though, Tottenham need to bring international stars back into the fold and hopefully pick up no new injuries in the coming days.

Dutch reporter on Micky van de Ven

The likes of Brennan Johnson, Pedro Porro, Radu Dragusin and Dejan Kulusevski have all been in action in recent days.

Then there is Micky van de Ven, who is looking for his big chance in the Netherlands squad.

Van de Ven had to make do with a place on the bench during Euro 2024, something which baffled Harry Redknapp.

During Friday’s 1-1 draw against Hungary, Van de Ven lined up at left back with Nathan Ake out of action.

That may be Van de Ven’s route into the side whilst Virgil van Dijk and Stefan de Vrij are still going strong.

Make no mistake though, the Tottenham defender is incredibly highly rated over in the Netherlands.

Reporter Christian Willaert has been discussing Van de Ven in comments published by FC Update.

Willaert suggests that Van de Ven should be one of the first names on the team sheet for the Netherlands based n his performances for Tottenham.

Willaert added that Van de Ven and Barcelona ace Frenkie de Jong are the only Dutch players who could realistically command fees of around €100million.

“Imagine the Dutch national team hadn’t played for two years and you’d say: ‘who performed how in the past two years in the big leagues?’. Then you’d almost put Van de Ven on paper first? That’s how good, the level he’s reached,” said Willaert.

“Transfer value now, who is worth more than a hundred million with a Dutch passport? Maybe Frenkie de Jong and maybe Van de Ven. Nobody else,” he added.

Van de Ven would be up with Gareth Bale

That €100million (£84million) valuation would mark huge profit for Tottenham.

Tottenham paid £34.5million rising to around £45million for Van de Ven in 2023, luring him away from Bundesliga side Wolfsburg.

If Spurs cashed in for €100million, that would be the same fee brought in for Gareth Bale when he was sold to Real Madrid in 2013.

That kind of price tag on a centre back may sound crazy but Van de Ven has all the attributes to be worth that kind of cash.

Van de Ven’s blazing speed allows Tottenham to play higher up the pitch and that will certainly appeal to other clubs.

Van de Ven is impressive on the ball both in terms of passing and carrying, as we saw in the 3-0 win at Manchester United.

Those attributes will certainly attract interest but we hope to see Van de Ven shining in the Tottenham defence for a long, long time yet.

Van de Ven still has work to do defensively, as we saw against Brighton, but few centre backs in the world game will be worth more than him right now.
