Tottenham were 1-0 victors away at Luton Town on Saturday afternoon, courtesy of a goal from Micky Van De Ven, but the game did not come without controversy due to Yves Bissouma.
Spurs midfielder Bissouma was sent off on the stroke of half-time for a second yellow card, which means he is now suspended.
He was originally going into the game knowing that one booking would mean he would be suspended having already picked up four yellow cards already this season, so a fifth would have meant he was suspended for one game, which he now is.
BBC pundit critical of Bissouma’s decision making
BBC pundit Garth Crooks was very critical of Bissouma, saying that manager Ange Postecoglou and his coaching staff have to deal with his aggression on the pitch sooner rather than later, before it costs them later down the line.
“Son Heung-min and Richarlison were well off the pace and why Yves Bissouma thought it a good idea to dive having already been booked earlier in the game beggars belief,” he said on his BBC Team of the Week column.
“His second caution was totally justified and such recklessness needs to be addressed by Tottenham’s coaching staff immediately before a costlier moment comes against a much bigger club.”
Bissouma suspension a big blow
The Mali international has been revitalised under the management of Ange Postecoglou, with him and Pape Matar Sarr being integral in Spurs’ midfield to their success so far this season.
Having Bissouma missing for their first game back after the international break at home to Fulham will be a blow, but Spurs do have the likes of Oliver Skipp who can deputise in his absence.
