Tottenham won’t be making too many plans for new players just yet, with the club still fighting to secure its Premier League status for another campaign.

Changes will be afoot in the summer regardless of the division in which Tottenham find themselves, and it’s important that the club learns from the debacle of the 2025/26 campaign.

Guglielmo Vicario is being linked with Inter this summer, and it does feel as though a new goalkeeper will be right at the top of the transfer shortlist for the summer window.

Now, it would appear that one Tottenham target is being eyed by a number of clubs ahead of the transfer window, which could be detrimental to the North Londoners.

James Trafford wanted by Aston Villa

Tottenham have been linked with Trafford ahead of the summer window, but now, the Daily Mail claims that Aston Villa are very keen.

Trafford was the first-choice goalkeeper at the start of the season for Manchester City, but the arrival of Gianluigi Donnarumma has shunted him down the pecking order.

The goalkeeper has caught the eye of a host of clubs, and his recent performance in the Carabao Cup final win over Arsenal has led to a number of clubs firming up their interest.

Scott Parker called Trafford ‘world-class’ during his time at Burnley, and given that he’s only 23-years-old, his signing would be a coup for most clubs this summer.

Tottenham are desperate to pin down a long-term goalkeeper, with the erratic Vicario seemingly on his way out of the club, and Trafford is likely to be a perfect player for the football club.

Spurs fighting losing battle for Trafford

It won’t be easy for Tottenham to land players of this ilk in the summer, with European football off the table for next season as far as Tottenham are concerned.

Villa will likely be in the Champions League next season, and if it were a choice between the two, it’s not hard to grasp which club Trafford would choose.

Tottenham will have big plans if they can remain a Premier League club for next season, and they will have to sign quality players to ensure the fortunes change in 2026/27.

With Villa’s interest now coming to light, signing Trafford might be too much of a long shot for Tottenham, regardless of what happens with the club’s fight against relegation.
