Ange Postecoglou has explained when he expects Heung-min Son to make his return from injury as Tottenham Hotspur prepare to face Manchester City.

Spurs take on the Premier League champions in the Carabao Cup ahead of a busy run of games which will see them play four times in 11 days.

The North London club are already set to be without Wilson Odobert who has just suffered a ‘serious’ setback in his return from a hamstring injury.

The Australian manager now faces a big selection dilemma for the game against City and has revealed whether he expects to have Son available.

Heung-min Son’s injury return date revealed

Postecoglou says that Son is aiming to return from injury against Aston Villa in the Premier League and he is unlikely to face Man City.

The news comes as a big blow to Tottenham who have now been left short in the left-wing spot with Timo Werner, Richarlison and Mikey Moore the remaining options.

Speaking ahead of the Carabao Cup fourth round, the Spurs boss told the media: “Son is almost fit but probably from our perspective, we’ll aim for the weekend. We’re quite confident he’ll be right for the weekend.”

Moore is expected to be rested for the clash, Richarlison’s minutes are likely to be managed upon his return from injury making Werner the most obvious candidate to start.

Tottenham’s predicted line up vs Manchester City: Vicario; Udogie, Van de Ven, Dragusin, Gray; Bentancur, Sarr, Kulusevski; Werner, Johnson, Solanke.

Manchester City facing injury crisis ahead of Tottenham clash

Manchester City have injury concerns of their own with several players out and Pep Guardiola ready to name players from the academy in his squad.

Rodri, Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker, Jack Grealish, Jeremy Doku and Oscar Bobb are all set to miss the trip to Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Speaking after the win over Southampton, Guardiola told the media: “We are few, few people. I don’t know if I’m going to think against Spurs maybe some players from the academy. We will see.

“If the players are fine they are going to play against Spurs but if they have doubts I’m not going to take a risk, that’s for sure.”
