Tottenham Hotspur were hoping to get their Premier League campaign off to a flying start away at newly-promoted Leicester City.
And for a while, it looked like they were on course to do so, completely dominating proceedings for much of the first half.
Tottenham were bright from the off and kept knocking at the door before the imminent breakthrough came on 29 minutes.
James Maddison curled a superb cross into the box as Pedro Porro made a brilliant late run and glanced the ball into the back of the net.
Spurs could’ve easily gone out of sight with the chances they had, but ultimately they had to settle for a 1-0 lead at the break.
They would go on to regret this as Leicester managed to fashion an equaliser out of nowhere just before the hour mark.
Leicester’s equalised with their first shot on target as Abdul Fatawu’s cross from the right was headed in by the unmarked Jamie Vardy from five yards out.
From then on, both teams had chances to win it, with Richarlison spurning a great late chance deep into injury time.
In the end, Tottenham had to settle for a share of the spoils, a disappointing outcome considering how many chances they had.
A number of pundits have been having their say on Spurs’ opening-day performance, and the likes of Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher didn’t pull any punches.

Tottenham described as ‘vulnerable’ and ‘criminal’
Neville said on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, via BBC Sport: “When the subs came on tonight, I think that could be a problem for Tottenham in terms of strength in depth.
“I think that they look quite vulnerable.”
Meanwhile Carragher said on Sky Sports: “It is the first game but you can see it in his interview, head bowed a little, he will be disappointed. They were so in control of that game.
“Ange Postecoglou has taken Tottenham back to what we always associated with Tottenham and a lot of that is good – attacking play, great on the eye.
“But you always feel like they can let you down and concede a goal.
“When you are so dominant in a game, to not come away with three points is criminal really considering the opposition they were up against, a promoted team.”

Robbie Keane and Michael Owen have their say
Meanwhile, Spurs cult hero Robbie Keane said on the Premier League website: “If you don’t take your chances in the Premier League, players like Jamie Vardy will always get opportunities.
“I don’t know what happened to Spurs at half-time. They dominated the first half but didn’t take their chances. They gave Leicester a bit of hope.”
Michael Owen added: “The equaliser came out of nothing. And as soon as the goal came it was a different game and Leicester were the better team.
“At the end of it was probably a fair result but Spurs will be kicking themselves.”
All in all, there’s a lot of work for Tottenham to do over the coming weeks on the pitch.
Meanwhile, the transfer window is still open, and Alasdair Gold has revealed how many more signings he thinks Spurs might make before deadline day.
