Ange Postecoglou just did something at Tottenham for the first time since Nuno Espirito Santo

Tottenham capped off a decent week of action with a huge win over Aston Villa in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Ange Postecoglou was looking for a response from his team and got it in mid-week when Spurs beat Man City in the EFL Cup.

The challenge extended into the Premier League when taking on Aston Villa, who narrowly beat Tottenham to a top-four finish last season.

It was the Villains who struck first as Morgan Rogers made a simple tap-in from a corner that fell in his direction.

The second half saw the Lilywhites kick on though as Brennan Johnson, James Maddison and Dominic Solanke scored twice to ensure a 4-1 victory and a bit of form before another big week.

Ange Postecoglou beats Aston Villa at home for the first time since 2021

In recent years, Aston Villa have managed to get the better of Tottenham at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Defeats in January and November of 2023 at home had seen Spurs pick up a slightly poor record against the Villains.

Some of that may have been down to clear improvements from the Midlands outfit, who have impressed under Unai Emery.

The last win for Tottenham against Aston Villa at home came in 2021 under former manager Nuno Espirito Santo during his impressive run of form.

That’s a wait of over three years for Spurs to get one over their opposition, which could be huge in the race for the Champions League places.

It won’t be enough to satisfy Postecoglou in the long term though, with hopes of breaking more records as the season goes.

While Ipswich are a favourable opponent coming up, the international break brings some difficult fixtures to compete in.

Manchester City and Chelsea will provide some huge challenges, while Fulham and Bournemouth are more than capable of causing problems.

If Spurs manage to get through that period without any key injuries and with some big results, then it will be a huge boost to Postecoglou and his project.

Add to that the challenges of the Europa Conference League, EFL Cup and FA Cup coming up and there’s some tough rotations that may have to be made.
