Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a significant blow in their attempts to land Club Brugge starlet Antonio Nusa.

Spurs had been locked in talks with Brugge about a deal to sign Nusa for over a week.

It has since emerged that Brentford have agreed a deal with the Belgian outfit to sign the Norwegian starlet.

Many expected Tottenham to wrap up a deal for the 18-year-old ahead of Thursday’s deadline. But Nusa looks set to complete a switch to the Gtech Community Stadium

Now, Football.London’s Alasdair Gold has shared why the Norwegian is keen on a switch to Brentford over Spurs.

Why Nusa wants to join Brentford over Spurs

Gold took to X on Sunday morning and claimed that Nusa has opted to link up with Thomas Frank due to the promise of regular starts under the Dane.

He wrote: “Understand Antonio Nusa chose Brentford because he was guaranteed regular starts there.

“Spurs held talks but for a raw but talented teenager not starting regularly for Club Brugge yet, they couldn’t offer such guarantees for next season with their current squad.

“The player and his camp also felt that moving to one of the bigger clubs was too big a step in his development at this point. Very talented youngster though and should reach that level.”

While it is a huge blow to miss out on Nusa, you can understand why the youngster has opted for a move to Brentford at this stage in his career.

The Norway international is more likely to start regularly under Frank than he would be under Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham.

While Spurs are lacking real star quality out wide, it could be argued that a move to Brentford would be better for Nusa’s development during the early stages of his career.

Nevertheless, should Nusa’s proposed switch to West London go through as planned, it will force Tottenham back to the drawing board.
