Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly ready to outbid Serie A giants Juventus in an attempt to snap up a Euro 2024 star this summer.

Spurs are targeting defensive reinforcements in the weeks ahead, particularly if Emerson Royal heads out the door.

The Brazilian is closing in on a switch to AC Milan with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy ready to accept a fee worth around £16 million for Royal.

Royal’s departure would leave Ange Postecoglou short of options in the full-back areas outside of Pedro Porro and Destiny Udogie.

Spurs are also reportedly willing to listen to offers for Ben Davies, meaning they are likely to target a left-sided defender.

And according to Italian outlet TuttoJuve, the Lilywhites are ready to outbid Juventus for Riccardo Calafiori.

Spurs readying bid for Riccardo Calafiori

Calafiori caught the eye in Italy’s Euro 2024 opener against Albania on Saturday.

The Bologna centre-back is on Tottenham’s radar and TuttoJuve claims Spurs are ready to outbid Juventus to sign him.

However, the Old Lady have already agreed terms with the ‘fantastic‘ 22-year-old and it’s claimed he would prefer to remain in Italy this summer.

Tottenham may be forced to look elsehwere

Spurs have already suffered a recent blow in their attempts to land a left-sided defender as Hiroki Ito joined Bayern Munich last week.

Like Calafiori, the Japanese defender was also left-footed and was said to be keen on a switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

It seems clear that Tottenham are searching for a versatile option in defence as they bid to find suitable cover for Udogie.

Micky van de Ven slotted in at left-back at the end of last season but it’s difficult to imagine Postecoglou being keen to split up the Dutchman’s promising partnership with Cristian Romero.
