And solid squad depth will be needed if they do qualify as there will now be an increase in games played in the new Champions League format.

Tottenham interested in Ederson

According to reports from Italy, Tottenham are at the front of the queue to sign the Brazilian midfielder this summer.

But the report does also claim Newcastle United are joining the Lilywhites at the front of the pack for the 24-year-old.

It has also been suggested the Serie A side have already set their asking price that they will not budge on.

Atalanta are believed to be looking for €35m (£30m) this summer and any offers lower will not be considered.

Tottenham’s midfield options

It is looking increasingly likely that Spurs will be playing Champions League football next season.

West Ham United’s win on Thursday night boosted England’s chances of receiving a fifth spot in next season’s competition.

And with that, comes an increase in games which Spurs will have to consider for next season.

Postecoglou has not yet had to contend with midweek European games at Spurs. but it seems he could soon be set to front just that.

He has, however, had to deal with multiple midfield injuries this season.

James Maddison and Rodrigo Bentancur have been just some of the big absences Spurs have had to contend with thus far.

And with this in mind, Postecoglou may need to rotate his options more frequently next season if Spurs are playing Champions League football.

It is claimed Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg is a player who is set to leave this summer.

Replacing him with a 24-year-old who has had the Fabio Paratici stamp of approval could be a huge upgrade to Postecoglou’s strength in depth.
