Tottenham Hotspur players are back in training after Ange Postecoglou ramps up his preparations for the the new Premier League season.

Ange Postecoglou is facing a tricky pre-season as the new Premier League campaign draws ever closer.

A handful of his Tottenham Hotspur players either have been or are still in international action this summer.

Cristian Romero and Giovani Lo Celso are still away at Copa America as they chase glory with Argentina.

The likes of Radu Dragusin, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Guglielmo Vicario have been away at Euro 2024 and will need breaks before starting pre-season training.

That leaves Postecoglou’s training sessions a little depleted but one player has appeared in training despite seemingly being in the final stages of his Spurs career.

Emerson Royal in Tottenham Hotspur training

Tottenham pounced to sign Archie Gray last week, bringing the wonderkid in from Leeds United.

Gray is predominantly a midfielder but he spent most of last season playing as a right back, adding another option in that area of the pitch.

Gray could serve as competition for Pedro Porro at right back, especially with questions over Emerson Royal’s future.

The Brazilian has failed to really impress on a consistent basis since arriving from Barcelona back in 2021.

Emerson only started 11 Premier League games last season and the time may have come for him to leave the club.

However, Emerson has shown up for pre-season training having posted a series of Instagram photos of his return to Hotspur Way.

Emerson simply stated ‘the king is back’, showing himself having fun and working hard ahead of the new season.

The 25-year-old does not appear to be pushing for a transfer and is prepared to knuckle down whilst he officially remains a Spurs player.

That kind of attitude is certainly what Spurs fans expect of Emerson, who has been a superb professional during his time at Tottenham.

Emerson hasn’t made the right back position his own but he has always given his all and that continues despite doubts about his future.

Emerson to AC Milan: the latest

The most likely move for Emerson is a trip to Italy with AC Milan.

New Milan boss Paulo Fonseca wants a new right back and Emerson has become their top target.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Milan are ‘prepared’ top send a new bid for Emerson in an effort to get a deal done.

Romano notes that a deal will be worth in excess of €15million (£12.5million) and that Emerson does want the move to the San Siro.

Emerson is understood to have already agreed a five-year deal with Milan in expectation of the clubs agreeing a price.

That agreement has not yet arrived but Emerson may well be on the move in the coming weeks as the Serie A side push for a deal.
