Tottenham Hotspur have now made their decision on whether Timo Werner will be sticking around for longer than just this season.

The German forward made the move to north London in the January transfer window on a short-term loan basis.

However, Spurs hold the option to make his stay permanent ahead of the summer.

Tottenham decide on Timo Werner’s future

According to Sports Lens, the Lilywhites are now expected to make Timo Werner their first signing of the summer transfer window.

After struggling on his return to the Bundesliga following his time at Chelsea, it seems he will now be handed a permanent home at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Ange Postecoglou has seen the 28-year-old return two goals and two assists for Tottenham in his eight Premier League appearances.

Tottenham are said to have until 14 June to make their mind up on Werner, but the forward is keen to join permanently in a £15m deal.

What Ange Postecoglou said about Timo Werner recently

The German has now made five starts in the Premier League since joining back in January.

He has made a further three appearances from the bench, but has seen his game time reduced since Heung-min Son’s return from the Asian Cup.

It took him until the recent game against Crystal Palace to get on the scoresheet for Spurs and Posteceoglou made it clear more is to come from Werner.

The Spurs manager said: “I think he’s been really important. If we hadn’t brought him in there would have been far more of a burden on the other players, especially with Sonny away. We threw him straight in. He’s made an impact but I think he can get even better.”

Looking ahead to next season, Tottenham are likely to need strong options from the bench, and Werner has been that of late.

Champions League football could be secured even with a fifth-placed finish this season thanks to West Ham’s recent win in the Europa League.

So there is a strong chance Spurs will be playing in the elite European competition next season.

And having a player like Werner in the squad could be of huge use to Postecoglou with the 28-year-old having vast Champions League experience under his belt.
