Emerson Royal has left Tottenham Hotspur after three years at the club.

The Ange Postecogolou revolution is well underway at Tottenham Hotspur, with the Aussie now looking to build upon his side’s impressive fifth-place finish last season.

Inheriting a squad that was built during a time of turbulence for Spurs, Postecoglou soon worked his footballing magic to transform Tottenham into a fast-flowing attacking unit.

Now twelve months into the job, the Aussie has had the chance to start shaping his squad with a number of incomings and outgoings already this summer – with the latest of those departures being Brazilian full-back Emerson Royal.

Having failed to nail down a regular first-team slot since his 2021 arrival, Emerson Royal’s North London exit is one that has been on the cards for a while now.

Joining Italian giants AC Milan for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £15m (according to the Daily Mail), Royal departs N17 having made 101 appearances for the Lilywhites over three seasons.

The full-back played under three permanent managers during his Spurs career, enjoying some of his best form last season as a makeshift centre-back during an injury crisis.

In a statement released on the club’s website, Tottenham thanked the Brazilian for his services.

“We have reached agreement with AC Milan for the transfer of Emerson Royal.

“We wish Emerson all the best for the future.”

Despite not living up to the heights expected of him at Tottenham, Emerson Royal became somewhat of a fan favourite during his time at Spurs.

Not famed for his footballing talent, it was rather his notorious no-look passes and matchday compilations that gained him cult-like status amongst the Spurs faithful.

Following the announcement of his move to AC Milan, Tottenham supporters took to social media to voice their thanks to the Brazilian.

One fan commented on X (formerly Twitter): “Royal is very good RIGHT back. But he was asked to play wingback by Conte and inverted by Ange, which he can’t do. Very unlucky match in the end. I expect him to do very well at Milan and wish him the best. Fantastic character.”

Another fan added: “All the best. One of a kind. From matchday compilations to no look passes.”

“That no look pass at the 87th min when we needed a goal will forever have a special place in my heart, good luck King,” a third fan said.

A fourth fan stated: “Fitting send off for the king of the comps.”
