Former Chelsea striker Timo Werner is closing in on a surprise loan move to Tottenham Hotspur.
Ange Postecoglou looks set to make his first addition of the January window and not many would have expected that man to be Timo Werner.
Spurs have been locked in talks with Genoa over a move for Radu Dragusin and their need for a new centre-back is certainly no secret.
Yet, the news of Tottenham’s interest in Werner took many by surprise yesterday and the German forward is closing in on a return to the Premier League.
Indeed, David Ornstein claims Spurs have reached a total agreement with RB Leipzig to sign Werner on loan, with an option to buy the striker in the summer.

Many Tottenham fans will remember Werner for his poor stint at Chelsea, where he struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge after joining for £47.5 million in the summer of 2020.
He completed a permanent switch back to Leipzig just two years later but now looks set for a second spell in English football.
And it’s fair to say the imminent arrival of Werner has received mixed reviews from Spurs supporters.
Tottenham fans react to Timo Werner news
Some fans have labelled the potential signing as ‘clever’ business, while others are less impressed and believe the club have gone for the ‘cheap’ option once again.
Werner enjoyed a fairly decent campaign last time out as he netted 16 times and provided six assists in 40 appearances for Leipzig.
The 27-year-old has only bagged twice this season though, having been limited to just eight Bundesliga appearances.

It’s certainly a move that has divided opinion amongst Tottenham fans and that is hardly a surprise.
Some feel we are yet to replace Harry Kane and snapping up Werner just months after selling the club’s all-time top goalscorer was always going to agitate a few.
But in our view, this could turn out to be a smart piece of business from Tottenham.
Postecoglou needs attacking reinforcements through the door and it’s no secret that bringing in top-quality players in January is difficult.
With Heung-Min Son currently unavailable due to his participation in the Asian Cup, Werner will provide a decent option through the middle for the time being.
The German’s pace and relentless work-rate also lends itself well to Postecoglou’s style of football.
