Eric Dier could join Jose Mourinho at AS Roma if Tottenham Hotspur sign Genoa star Radu Dragusin this month.
That’s according to journalist Nicolo Schira, who claims that Dier remains a target for Roma.
Dier has struggled for minutes under Ange Postecoglou this season, having made just four appearances in the league.
The 29-year-old has started just one game, which came back in November in a 2-1 defeat at Molineux.
It’s no secret that Spurs are on the lookout for a new centre-back this month, with Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven both sidelined with hamstring injuries.
Radu Dragusin seems to be the top target at this stage and Tottenham are reportedly one step away from landing the Romanian.
The Genoa star has already agreed personal terms with Spurs and if he ends up in North London this month, it could spell the end of Dier’s time at the club.
Dier could join Roma if Tottenham sign Dragusin
Schira claims that Dier could reunited with former Spurs boss Mourinho should Dragusin complete a switch to North London.
The journalist notes that Dier remains on Roma’s list of centre-back targets.
It does feel like the right time for Dier to seek a new challenge after seven and a half years at the club.
Postecoglou clearly doesn’t view the Englishman as an ideal fit for his system and a deal to sign Dragusin seems to be edging ever closer to completion.
Dier has even struggled for game time during a spell where Tottenham have been without Romero and Van de Ven.
The £85,000-a-week defender’s contract is also set to expire in the summer and Spurs have already offloaded Hugo Lloris on a free transfer this month.
Of course, much will depend on whether or not Tottenham manage to bring in a new centre-back.
But all signs seem to point towards Dragusin joining at this moment in time, which would only plunge Dier further down the pecking order.
Linking up with Mourinho could also be a good move for Dier given the fact he performed well under the Portuguese boss during his Spurs tenure.
