Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham have already decided it is time to replace Guglielmo Vicario in the summer, and work is underway to find an alternative.
Despite the arrival of his fellow countryman, Vicario is expected to leave Spurs this summer following a pretty poor season.
🔮 How many points will Roberto De Zerbi take from his first five matches at Spurs?
The Italian has looked far from his best at times this season, but with Antonin Kinsky the only alternative, he has remained first choice.
In the summer, Spurs need to find a suitable replacement, and names are already being discussed alongside the club’s new manager.
Tottenham want to sign Bart Verbruggen
Tottenham Hotspur want to sign Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen this summer, according to TalkSPORT.
Roberto De Zerbi is believed to be a huge fan of the Dutch shotstopper, having worked with him on the south coast at Brighton.
Spurs had already been looking to replace Guglielmo Vicario, and De Zerbi looks ready to accelerate these plans should the club remain in the Premier League.
The Seagulls could be open to selling the 23-year-old, as they have Carl Rushworth returning from his very impressive loan spell at Coventry.
Bayern Munich are also looking at the Brighton goalkeeper; therefore, Spurs could face difficulties trying to sign him.
Back in 2023, after signing him, De Zerbi said: “I am very pleased to have signed Bart. He is used to playing a type of football similar to ours, and he will have no problem fitting into our group.
“He has the potential to become a very important player for the club in the coming years.”
Change our mind… Kinsky should be starting ahead of Vicario!
Agree or disgree?
Vicario is currently out injured, but the Italian is likely to be ready to face Sunderland in De Zerbi’s first game as manager.
The 29-year-old is not great at playing out from the back, and this could make it tricky for De Zerbi to implement his style straight away.
The 46-year-old often has his goalkeeper playing as almost a third centre back during the build-up, but Vicario’s distribution is very poor.
