Tottenham Hotspur are ready to launch a bid to sign Gleison Bremer in January.

That’s according to Fichajes, who have reported that they are prepared to pay €40 million (£34.8m) to lure the defender to the Premier League.

After starting his career in his native Brazil, Bremer joined Torino in 2018 and was named as the best defender in Serie A for the 2021-22 season before he earned himself a move to Juventus last summer.

The ‘important’ centre-back made 30 appearances in Serie A last season and has started all five of their matches in the competition so far this term.

However, Juve’s financial problems have led to Bremer being linked with some of Europe’s biggest clubs and he has been a target for Tottenham since the summer.

Spurs are eager to exploit Juve’s off-pitch struggles and are preparing to bid £34.8m for the 26-year-old during the January transfer window – only slightly less than what the Italian giants paid for him a year ago.

Tottenham have looked miles better defensively under Ange Postecoglou and have seen a new-look backline featuring Destiny Udogie and Micky van de Ven shine.

However, they are really lacking for defensive cover and injuries would force them to hand starts to the likes of Eric Dier and Emerson Royal, who have really struggled to impress in the past.

Can Tottenham afford Gleison Bremer?

Tottenham now see Bremer as their top target to bolster their squad and are reportedly in a hurry to get a deal done as they look to avoid entering a bidding war with other interested clubs.

The North London club already spent over £200 million on the summer on the likes of James Maddison, Brennan Johnson and Pedro Porro, however reports have claimed that they will look to fund further transfers with the departures of three players.

It is thought that Spurs will look to offload Giovani Lo Celso, Pierre Hojberg and Ivan Perisic in the new year, with the trio surplus to requirements under Postecoglou.
