Eric Dier is yet to decide whether he wants to stay at Tottenham Hotspur.

That’s according to Calciomercato, who have reported that the defender is unsure whether to renew his contract or reunite with Jose Mourinho at AS Roma.

Dier has spent almost 10 years in Tottenham and managed to force his way back into the England squad for the 2022 World Cup due to his brilliant form under Antonio Conte, with the Italian labelling him ‘reliable’.

Dier’s time under Mourinho prior to Conte’s arrival was more of a rollercoaster though, with the centre-back spending time as a key figure in their backline before he was also criticised for his declining form by the manager.

Despite his love-hate relationship with Mourinho, the Roma boss is now eager to link up with Dier again and could hand him regular first team football in Serie A.

The 29-year-old hasn’t featured for Tottenham since May but is still debating whether to put pen to paper on a new deal at the club. Dier’s current deal is set to expire next summer.

Roma are currently struggling in 10th place in the Italian top flight and have conceded the most goals in the top half of the table (12). Mourinho is eager to bring Dier in to firm up his defence as he looks to avoid the sack this season.

However, Dier still hasn’t decided whether to stay at Spurs or take the leap and move abroad.

Eric Dier, it is time to go

Eric Dier would be silly to stay at Tottenham. While he clearly loves the club, Ange Postecoglou certainly doesn’t see the former Sporting Lisbon man in his future plans.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven have formed a brilliant partnership at the back this season and Dier would have to work wonders to force his way back into the line-up.

The centre-back needs a fresh start and a switch to Serie A could be the way, with the likes of Fikayo Tomori, Chris Smalling and Ruben Loftus-Cheek all benefiting from making the move.
