The North London club have been really backing the Italian manager in the transfer window, already signing Jan Paul van Hecke, Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.

Next on the agenda are moves for Tonali and Fernandes, with the latter now seemingly having made his next destination very clear.

Mateus Fernandes picks Tottenham over Real Madrid

Mateus Fernandes prefers to join Tottenham Hotspur over Real Madrid this summer, according to Diario AS.

Madrid made an inquiry about the Portuguese midfielder, with Jose Mourinho keen, but it has been decided that he will not move to the Santiago Bernabeu.

Los Blancos have now decided that they will be going after Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez, after being turned down by the West Ham star.

Instead, the 21-year-old wants to join Spurs, where he believes he will get more opportunities to develop his game under De Zerbi.

Landing the midfielder would be a huge coup for the Lilywhites, as Manchester United were also chasing him this summer.

Tottenham could have the best midfield pivot in the Premier League

If Tottenham manage to pull off a deal for Tonali and Fernandes, they would likely have the best midfield pivot in the Premier League.

Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi are up there, along with Elliot Anderson and Rodri, who would also be very strong.

But suddenly, Spurs could have a super balance in their midfield by signing two of the best-performing midfielders in the top flight last season.

It would be quite a transition from Joao Palhinha and Rodrigo Bentancur, who finished the season as the pairing.

However, Lucas Bergvall could be the player to make way for the duo, with the midfielder linked to Nottingham Forest.
