Tottenham Hotspur could now hold a key advantage over Manchester United in the race for Mateus Fernandes.
Roberto De Zerbi is keen to transform Spurs’ midfield and is targeting moves for both the West Ham player and Sandro Tonali.
👀 How would you react if Tottenham pulled off a deal to sign Sandro Tonali?
Is there a better midfield signing for Spurs than the Italian?
Tottenham are currently working to sign Tonali; meanwhile, talks are ongoing with Fernandes’ agent to see if he would be open to joining Spurs.
The North London club face strong competition from Manchester United for the Portuguese star, but they do have a potential trump card to play.
Mateus Fernandes loves living in London
Tottenham Hotspur’s hopes of signing Mateus Fernandes could be boosted by the fact that the midfielder loves living in London.
Living in the English capital is a major pull for many players, and after a year there, the 21-year-old could well be open to staying.
Speaking about Tottenham’s pursuit of Fernandes, Bridge told Last Word On Spurs: “Well, Fernandes is believed to really love living in London, so that puts Tottenham in good standing.
I mean, look, London is London, so I wouldn’t totally rule that out at all. Yes, with Tonali, he has Bruno (Gimaaraies), and they’ve been formidable for Newcastle United.
“But again, he’s talked about loving Bentancur; Conor Gallagher is now the number eight, so decisions are going to have to be made. It’s going to be a very, very interesting few weeks.
“But I go back to it, if Spurs could get a deal done for Tonali, I think it would elevate what people outside the club are thinking in terms of ‘Fair enough, respect that’, and the fans would think, ‘Wow, that is a major signing you’ve got over the line’.”
🤔 KEEP, LOAN or SELL: What should happen to Lucas Bergvall at Spurs next season?

United seems like a more likely destination at this stage, but it will be interesting to see how much of a factor London could play in a deal.
Meanwhile, Lucas Bergvall could be one of the players to make way for Fernandes, after the Swede requested to leave this summer.
