Darren Bent has applauded James Maddison following his move to Tottenham Hotspur.

Speaking on talkSPORT, the former striker claimed Maddison and Spurs was a ‘match made in heaven’ after a stellar start to the campaign for the new signing.

Maddison looked destined for a big money move this summer after netting 10 goals and providing nine assists despite Leicester City’s relegation.

After being linked with a number of clubs including Newcastle United, Tottenham snapped Maddison up for only £40 million in June and he was instantly appointed vice-captain.

Tottenham have enjoyed a spectacular month under Ange Postecoglou and Maddison has certainly been one of their standout players, scoring twice and bagging two assists in only four matches in the Premier League.

The North London club now sit second in the table and look to be proving the doubters with wrong, with Maddison easily one of the first names on the team-sheet.

Bent has been extremely impressed with his former club’s transfer business, labelling Maddison’s arrival as one of the signings of the season.

“When you look at the ability that he’s got and what he can do with a football since he’s joined Spurs, it almost looks like a match made in heaven,” Bent told talkSPORT.

“Him, Son and Kulusevski, what they’ve got going on at the minute, him and Bissouma linking up, it’s looked really impressive.

“For me, him or James Ward-Prowse have been the signing of the season and Declan Rice has done well too but Maddison has been brilliant. He looks like he’s been playing at Spurs for years.

“I can’t remember them having a creative player like this since Eriksen.”

James Maddison to Tottenham was incredible business

James Maddison only had a year left on his contract and was never going to play in the Championship, however £40 million still seems like a huge bargain for Tottenham.

The transfer market is hugely inflated at the moment and is seeing players of lower quality than Maddison – such as Kai Havertz and Mason Mount – go for significantly more than the 26-year-old’s fee.

Maddison has still have plenty of years left in the locker and could become a real hero in London if he can continue his form. His arrival could go down as one of the club’s very best.
