Tottenham Hotspur have had a patchy history in terms of signing strikers over the years with some rather forgettable names lured to North London.
Harry Kane’s rise to becoming a superstar at Tottenham Hotspur was a blessing and a curse.
Tottenham were able to witness Kane becoming one of the finest strikers of his generation and a club legend in the process.
No Tottenham fan would trade that period but Spurs did find signing other forwards something of a problem.
Quality strikers weren’t too keen on the idea of joining Tottenham just to sit behind Kane in the pecking order.
That left Tottenham taking punts on other strikers and the list of forwards to join Spurs in the Kane era is not exactly flattering.
Clinton N’Jie finds another club
Vincent Janssen, Fernando Llorente and Carlos Vinicius all arrived but didn’t exactly have long-lasting success.
Spurs have since spent big money on both Richarlison and Dominic Solanke in an attempt to add proven Premier League goalscorers.
The first to arrive was Clinton N’Jie though as Tottenham pounced to sign the Cameroonian forward from Lyon in 2015.
Spurs paid £10million to sign N’Jie, as noted by the Daily Mail, having been attracted to his potential in France.
N’Jie hit eight goals in 33 games during the 2014-15 season, prompting Spurs to sign him under Mauricio Pochettino as a player who could play up front or out wide.
The move simply didn’t work out as N’Jie played just 14 times for Tottenham and failed to score a single goal.
That record landed N’Jie on our list of the worst Tottenham signings in the Daniel Levy era.
After heading on loan to Marseille for the 2016-1y season, N’Jie completed a permanent move to the French side.
N’Jie is now 31 but has now made the latest move in his career.
Romanian side Rapid Bucharest have confirmed the arrival of N’Jie on a two-year contract, handing N’Jie a return to football after becoming a free agent at the end of last season.
Rapid recently axed Neil Lennon as their manager and will be looking for N’Jie to make a big impact after completing his signature.
Where else has N’Jie been playing?
N’Jie’s time with Marseille saw him score 12 goals in 60 games as a permanent player before moving to Russia with Dynamo Moscow.
The forward spent three years in Russia, scoring six times in 66 outings and moved on to Turkish side Sivasspor in 2022.
N’Jie has spent two years in Turkiye, notching five goals and five assists in 72 games whilst predominantly playing as a winger.
Now heading to Romania as a free agent, N’Jie has joined the sixth club of his career.
N’Jie has never quite lived up to the potential he showed at Lyon but has now racked up 42 caps for Cameroon, so has managed to carve out a decent career after leaving Tottenham.
