Fabrizio Romano claims Tottenham Hotspur have gone ‘cold’ on move to sign Ange Postecoglou target

Tottenham Hotspur are looking for attacking signings this summer but one target now appears to be fading off the radar ahead of the new season.

Ange Postecoglou actually saw his first summer recruit sign on the dotted line back in February.

Midfielder Lucas Bergvall agreed to join from Djurgarden and finally starts his Tottenham Hotspur career this summer.

The Swede was then followed by Timo Werner as the RB Leipzig loanee signed on for another season.

Tottenham then spent on Archie Gray, luring the Leeds United wonderkid to North London having shown huge potential in the Championship.

That gives Postecoglou some fresh blood to work with at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but the Spurs boss will need more recruits soon.

Tottenham going ‘cold’ on Desire Doue

Attacking options are wanted this summer despite Postecoglou having a number of options.

Son Heung-min, Manor Solomon, Timo Werner, Richarlison, Brennan Johnson, Dejan Kulusevski and Bryan Gil are all in the mix, though some of those could move on.

Tottenham certainly appear to be in the market for at least one attacking signing.

Reports following Gray’s deal suggested that Tottenham were focused on a forward player as the ‘next big transfer’.

The favourite appeared to be Rennes talent Desire Doue, a player who can play on either flank or as a number 10.

Reports suggested that Postecoglou personally wanted to land Doue and had become a ‘top priority’ for Tottenham.

However, Fabrizio Romano now claims that Tottenham have suddenly ‘gone cold’ on the deal.

Romano told The Debrief that Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are now leading the race for Doue, with a move to Spurs seemingly not in the plans as things stand.

This means Doue could end up being a teammate of Harry Kane and Eric Dier in Bavaria with Bayern pushing for his signature.

“From what I heard, Tottenham have gone cold at the moment, so the situation is more focused on Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain,” said Romano. “So, these are the two clubs really pushing to sign Desire Doue. Let’s see if some other club will try to join the race. So let’s keep it open until it’s done, because the player has not decided yet which club he wants to join.”

“He’s speaking to both Bayern and Paris Saint-Germain at the moment. Different projects, different ideas, different vision of the managers. So they are taking their time on player’s side and player camp and player agent to decide all together.  But for sure, the idea at the moment is to join one between Bayern and PSG. These two clubs are really pushing. And so they are the clear favourites to sign Desire Doue,” he added.

Tottenham need a centre forward

We can understand the attraction to Doue.

The 19-year-old has shown talent in a number of positions and looks to have enormous potential for the future.

However, Doue doesn’t really solve Tottenham’s main issue – needing a striker.

Harry Kane still hasn’t been replaced and whilst adding more talented, versatile players would be nice, we think a new striker is paramount.

Postecoglou used a poacher at Celtic in Kyogo Furuhashi, but also brought in physical centre forwards in Giorgos Giakoumakis and Oh Hyeon-gyu.

Tottenham just don’t have the striking options to take that next step and we would rather see funds committed to a real goalscorer rather than a talent like Doue right now.
